Parliament and Power

Parliament and Power is a tertiary level programme that provides an overview of the role of Parliament and the separation of powers in New Zealand. 

This programme is designed to introduce groups to the structure, role and work of New Zealand Parliament. It begins in our Education Centre, looking at New Zealand’s constitution, separation of powers, branches of government, and key functions of Parliament. It is targeted at adult/tertiary learners, particularly those interested in the machinery of government.

The information in the Parliament and Power programme can be tailored to each group’s specific learning focus and provides an opportunity for participants to ask questions relevant to their roles and interaction with Parliament. 

Groups will visit selected venues within Parliament buildings where possible, including:

• Debating Chamber
• A select committee room
• Theatrette (Press conference room).

How long is the programme?

Parliament and power is a 60–90-minute programme. Visit durations are 90 minutes if the House is sitting and 60 minutes at all other times.

Bookings are essential. Visit our Online Booking Portal to reserve your preferred date and time.The maximum group size is 35 visitors, including adults. Standard adult to student ratios apply.
